Port Albemarle (in Spanish: Puerto Santa Eufemia) is a small settlement located on West Falkland, one of the main islands in the Falkland Islands. It is found on the far southern part of the island, on the eastern side, right at the southern end of Falkland Sound.

What is Port Albemarle?

Port Albemarle is a historic place known for its large natural harbour. This made it a great spot for ships and boats. Today, it is mostly a sheep farm.

How Was Port Albemarle Used in the Past?

In the late 1800s, Port Albemarle became a very busy place for seal hunting. People would hunt seals for their valuable fur and oil. You can still see the old ruins of the buildings from that time.

After World War II, the settlement grew bigger. The Colonial Development Company helped to expand it, just like they did with Ajax Bay. Port Albemarle had its own power station, a jetty (a pier for boats), and Nissen huts (special buildings made of corrugated steel). All these buildings are now abandoned, but the area is still used as a sheep station.

What Natural Features are Nearby?

Close to Port Albemarle, you can find the Arch Islands. These are small islands located in the waters nearby.
