Port de Sóller is a lovely village and port in Mallorca, Spain. It is part of the larger town of Sóller. This area is located on the beautiful Balearic Islands.

Port de Sóller, along with the village of Fornalutx and the small area of Biniaraix, all make up the Sóller region. About 12,000 people live in this combined area. A special old tramway connects the inland town of Sóller to Port de Sóller. It runs right along the road by the beach.

About Port de Sóller

This resort area has many shops, restaurants, and cafes. It is a calm place, away from the busier tourist spots on the island. You can find a few large hotels here, like Hotel Eden and Hotel Esplendido. They are located along the road that goes around the bay.

Two lighthouses stand tall on the hills at each side of the bay, called La Badia de Sóller. One side of the bay is used by the Spanish Army for training. This has helped to keep that area undeveloped.

The beach in the bay is a great place to relax. The sand was even replaced in 2009 to make it nicer for visitors.

Wildlife in the Bay

The bay and the end of the river here attract many different birds. You might see graceful little egrets and Muscovy ducks. Large groups of herring gulls often fly overhead. You can also spot greylag geese and mallard ducks enjoying the water.

History of the Village

On May 16, 1946, a strong tornado hit the town. It caused injuries to about 100 people. This event was recorded based on reports of the damage.

Getting Around

The tramway is a famous way to travel here. It connects Port de Sóller to the town of Sóller. This tram line opened in 1913 and is about 5 kilometers long. Some of the original tram cars from 1913 are still used today!

There is also a bus service that links the resort to Palma. Palma is the capital city of the island.
