The Portrait of Camilla Gonzaga and Her Three Sons is a famous painting. It was created by the Italian artist Parmigianino and his helpers. They painted it around 1535 to 1537. Today, you can see it at the Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain.

How We Know About It
This painting was first mentioned in a list from 1686. This list was for the art collections at the Royal Alcazar of Madrid. It was called the "wife of the count of San Sigundo."
This note helped experts figure out who the woman in the painting was. She is Camilla Gonzaga. She was married to the important general Pier Maria III de' Rossi. Another note from 1630, written by one of his family members, also mentioned a portrait of him by Parmigianino.
When It Arrived in Spain
The painting came to Spain in 1664. This happened after King Philip IV helped the Rossi family. They were having an argument with the Farnese family about some land.
The painting is thought to be from around 1539–1540. But some people are not sure if Parmigianino painted all of it. Some think an artist from Bronzino's workshop might have helped.
It is possible that Parmigianino died in 1540 before finishing the painting. Another artist might have completed it. They might have used Parmigianino's original drawing or sketch.

The painting shows Countess Camilla Gonzaga. She stands against a dark background. She wears a beautiful scarlet (bright red) dress. She also has a fancy ruffled mousseline fabric on her chest. She is wearing many rich jewels.
Camilla is looking to her right. It seems like she is looking towards the portrait of her husband. Her three sons are with her in the painting. Their names are Troilo, Federico, and Ippolito. This was the first time in Italian art that a mother was shown with all her children like this.
