The Portrait of Giulio Clovio is a famous painting from the Renaissance period. It was created around 1571 by the well-known artist El Greco. An important Italian leader named Alessandro Farnese asked El Greco to paint it while the artist was living in Rome.

This painting became part of the famous Farnese collection of artworks. Later, in 1734, a king named Charles of Bourbon received the painting. He moved it to Naples, Italy. Today, you can see it at the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples.

The person in the painting is Giulio Clovio, who was born in Croatia in 1498. He was a very famous artist who made tiny, detailed paintings called miniatures. People said he was so good at tiny paintings that they called him "the Michelangelo of miniatures." Giulio Clovio had also helped El Greco get started when he first arrived in Rome. In the painting, Clovio is holding his most famous work, a beautiful book called the Farnese Hours. In the background, you can see a window looking out onto a landscape with a stormy sky.

El Greco was a Greek painter, sculptor, and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. His real name was Doménikos Theotokópoulos. He was born in Crete, which was part of the Republic of Venice at the time.

El Greco moved to Venice when he was 26 years old. He studied with the famous painter Titian. Later, he moved to Rome, where he met Giulio Clovio. In 1577, El Greco moved to Toledo, Spain, where he spent the rest of his life. He became very famous for his unique style of painting.
