The President of Ichkeria was the main leader of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. This was a government that existed from 1991 to 2007. It was an Islamic Republic that controlled most of the Chechen area.

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was a state that was not officially recognized by most countries. It existed de facto, meaning it was real in practice, even if not legally recognized. This period included the First Chechen War and the Second Chechen War. The last time people voted for a president in Ichkeria was in January 1997.

Changes in Leadership

On October 31, 2007, Dokka Umarov, who was the president of Ichkeria, announced a new group called the Caucasus Emirate. He became its leader, called an Emir. This meant the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and its presidency were ended.
