The President of Namibia is the top leader of the country. This person is both the head of state and the head of government. This means they represent Namibia to the world and also lead the country's daily operations.
The president is in charge of the executive branch of the government. This branch makes sure that laws are carried out. The president also leads the Cabinet, which is a group of important government officials. In addition, the president is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. This means they are the supreme leader of Namibia's military. All these roles are set out in the Constitution.

Presidential Term Limits
The president of Namibia can serve for a certain amount of time. As of 2021, the Constitution says a president can only serve two terms. Each term lasts for five years.
This rule started applying to presidents from 2015 onwards. Hifikepunye Pohamba was the first president to complete his two terms under this rule.
Who Takes Over? (Succession)
If the president cannot do their job, or if the position becomes empty, other officials are ready to step in. This is called the line of succession. They would serve for the rest of the president's term.
The order of who takes over is:
- Vice President of Namibia
- Prime Minister of Namibia
- Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia
- A person chosen by the Cabinet.
Before 2014, there was no Vice President. So, the Prime Minister was the first person in line to take over if something happened to the president.
