The president is also in charge of the Revolutionary Council. This council is a group of people who help the president make decisions. Some of these people are chosen by the president, and some must come from the House of Representatives, which is like Zanzibar's parliament.
People vote for the president, and the person with the most votes wins. A president serves for five years. They can be re-elected, but only one time.
After the Zanzibar Revolution in 1964, Abeid Karume became the very first President of Zanzibar. He was the leader of a group called the Afro-Shirazi Party.
