The Prime Minister of Tanzania is a very important person in the country's government. They are like the main leader for how the government works in the parliament. Even though the Prime Minister leads government business, the President of Tanzania is the actual head of the government.
The rules for what the Prime Minister does are written in the Constitution of Tanzania, which is like the country's rulebook.
Article 52
- The Prime Minister is in charge of controlling, watching over, and carrying out the daily tasks and activities of the Government of the United Republic.
- The Prime Minister is the main leader for government work in the National Assembly.
- When using their power, the Prime Minister must do or make sure others do anything the President tells them to do.
The current Prime Minister is Kassim Majaliwa. He was chosen by former President John Magufuli. Mr. Majaliwa started his job on November 20, 2015, and continues to serve in this role.

Deputy Prime Minister Role
The job of Deputy Prime Minister in Tanzania is not always there. It is not written into the country's main rulebook, the Constitution. However, the President has the power to create or remove any government job. Because of this, the role of Deputy Prime Minister has been created a few times throughout history. This job is usually created for special political reasons or to recognize cabinet members who have done outstanding work.
