What Does the Prime Minister Do?
The job of the Prime Minister is explained in the Constitution of Tanzania. This is the main rulebook for the country.
Here's what the Constitution says about the Prime Minister's role:
Article 52
- The Prime Minister is in charge of controlling, watching over, and carrying out the daily tasks and activities of the Tanzanian Government.
- The Prime Minister is the main leader for government work in the National Assembly.
- When doing their job, the Prime Minister must do anything the President asks them to do.
So, the Prime Minister makes sure that the government's plans and decisions are put into action every day. They also lead discussions and work in the National Assembly.
Who is the Current Prime Minister?
The current Prime Minister of Tanzania is Kassim Majaliwa. He was chosen by the former President, John Magufuli. Mr. Majaliwa started his job on November 20, 2015.
What About a Deputy Prime Minister?
Sometimes, Tanzania has a Deputy Prime Minister. This job is not always listed in the Constitution. However, the President has the power to create or remove any government job. Because of this, the role of Deputy Prime Minister has been created a few times in Tanzania's history. Usually, this role is given for special political reasons or to cabinet members who have done outstanding work.
