The Priestley-Forsyth Memorial Library is a special building in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. It's also known as the Dr. Joseph Priestley House or the Cross Keys Inn. This historic place was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, which means it's an important landmark worth protecting.
A Building with Many Lives
This building has had many different uses over the years! It was first built in 1820. Back then, it was an inn called the Cross Keys Inn. An inn is like a hotel where travelers could stay and rest.
Around 1880, a man named Dr. Joseph Priestley bought the building. He was the great-grandson of the famous scientist and thinker Joseph Priestley. Dr. Priestley used the building as his home and also as his medical office.
From Home to Library
Later, around 1925, the building became a public library. This is how it got its current name, the Priestley-Forsyth Memorial Library. It has been helping people learn and read for almost 100 years!
Where to Find It
The library is located at 100 King Street in Northumberland. You can find it right on the corner of Front Street, which is also Route 11.
It's part of a larger area called the Northumberland Historic District. This district also includes another important building, the Joseph Priestley House.
