What Does the Painting Show?
This amazing painting takes us into the magical garden of Venus, the goddess of love. She stands right in the middle of the picture.
Meet the Characters in the Garden
- Venus: She is the main figure, standing calmly in the center. She looks like she is welcoming everyone to her garden.
- Cupid: Look above Venus's head! You'll see Cupid, Venus's son, flying with his bow and arrow. He's aiming at the Three Graces.
- The Three Graces: These three beautiful women are dancing together in a circle, called a rondel. They represent charm, beauty, and creativity.
- Mercury: On the far left, you'll spot Mercury, the messenger of the gods. He wears a helmet and carries a sword, acting like a guard for Venus's garden. He also uses his staff to push away dark clouds.
- Zephyr and Chloris: On the right side, there's Zephyr, the god of the west wind. He is shown chasing a nymph named Chloris.
- Flora: Right next to Chloris is Flora, the goddess of Spring. She is scattering beautiful flowers. The story says that Chloris was transformed into Flora after Zephyr chased her. This shows how spring brings new life and flowers.
