The Princess Royal Channel is a long, narrow body of water found in British Columbia, Canada. It's like a natural pathway through the ocean. This channel separates a large piece of land called Princess Royal Island from the mainland of British Columbia.

This important waterway is actually made up of two main parts. The southern part is known as Graham Reach. The northern part is called Fraser Reach. Both sections are part of the larger Princess Royal Channel.

Exploring the Channel

The Princess Royal Channel was first explored by Europeans a long time ago. This happened in 1793. A famous explorer named George Vancouver led this expedition. He was sailing with his ships, the Discovery and the Chatham.

Vancouver and his crew charted, or mapped, the southern half of the channel. They even anchored their ships in the middle of it. Later that same summer, one of Vancouver's officers, James Johnstone, continued the work. He mapped the northern part of the channel. Their detailed maps helped future sailors navigate these waters.
