What's in a Name?
The scientific name, alvaroi, was given to honor Álvaro Donoso-Barros. He is the son of Roberto Donoso-Barros, a famous scientist who studies reptiles. Roberto Donoso-Barros was the first person to describe this lizard species in 1975.
Where It Lives
The Pristidactylus alvaroi lizard loves to live in forests. Its natural habitat is usually found high up in the mountains. You can find it at elevations between 1,000 and 2,200 meters (about 3,280 to 7,218 feet).
Reproduction
This lizard species reproduces by laying eggs. Scientists call this oviparous. The female lizard lays her eggs, and then the baby lizards hatch from them.
