Map of the province

The province of Monza and Brianza is a special area in the Lombardy region of Italy. It's like a county or district. It's known for being very busy and having many people.

About the Province of Monza and Brianza

This province was officially created on May 12, 2004. It was formed by taking the north-eastern part from the province of Milan. It officially started working after elections in June 2009.

Size and Population

The province is home to about 871,735 people (as of 2017). It is divided into 55 smaller areas called comuni (which means municipalities or towns).

It covers an area of 405 square kilometers (about 156 square miles). This makes it one of the smallest provinces in Italy. Because it's so small but has many people, it's very urbanized. It's part of the larger city area of Milan.

Capital City: Monza

The capital and largest city in the province is Monza. About 123,776 people live there (as of 2017). Monza is only about 15 kilometers (9 miles) away from Milan.

Neighboring Areas

The province of Monza and Brianza shares its borders with several other provinces. To the north, it borders the provinces of Lecco and Como. To the west, it borders the province of Varese. The province of Bergamo is to its east. Finally, to the south-east, it borders the Metropolitan City of Milan.
