Prunus xueluoensis is a unique type of shrubby tree. It is part of the Prunus family, which includes many well-known plants like cherries and plums. This plant is found only in certain parts of China.
About Prunus xueluoensis
Prunus xueluoensis is a small tree or large bush. It usually grows to be about 0.5 to 3 meters (about 1.5 to 10 feet) tall. This plant likes to grow in higher places. You can find it at altitudes between 1100 and 1500 meters (about 3,600 to 4,900 feet) above sea level.
Where It Grows
This special Prunus species lives only in China. It is found in two specific provinces: Hubei and Jiangxi. It is known to grow on just three mountains in these areas:
- Xueluozhai
- Lushan
- Jinggangshan
What Makes It Special
Prunus xueluoensis looks a bit like some other Prunus plants. For example, it is similar to Prunus tomentosa and Prunus tianshanica. However, there are clear differences that help scientists tell them apart:
- Its flowers grow in small groups of two to four.
- Each flower has many more stamens (the parts that produce pollen).
- The pistil (the part that develops into fruit) is smooth.
- Its fruit is black when ripe.
Scientists have also studied the genes of Prunus xueluoensis. They found that it is closely related to other Prunus species. These include P. polytricha, P. jingningensis, and P. pseudocerasus.
