The Puerto de la Cruz Lighthouse (which means Lighthouse of Puerto de la Cruz in Spanish) is an active lighthouse. You can find it in Puerto de la Cruz on the northern coast of Tenerife. Tenerife is one of the beautiful Canary Islands in Spain.
This modern lighthouse stands in a car park right by the sea. It is located to the west of the town's small port. This lighthouse is one of seven that help ships navigate along the coast of Tenerife. It sits between two other modern lighthouses: Punta del Hidalgo to the northeast and Buenavista to the west.
About the Lighthouse
The Puerto de la Cruz Lighthouse was finished in 1995. It was built as part of a big plan from the 1980s to improve lights for ships. This plan added new lighthouses in many places across the Canary Islands. Other lighthouses built around the same time include Punta del Hidalgo and Buenavista on Tenerife. Also, Castilette on Gran Canaria, and Arenas Blancas and Punta Lava on La Palma.
This lighthouse has a very cool and modern design. It is a metal tower that is 27 metres (89 ft) tall. The tower is made of dark steel. Inside, there's a central part with stairs that go all the way to the top. This is where the light shines from.
The light is 31 metres (102 ft) above sea level. This means it can be seen from up to 16 nautical miles away. A nautical mile is a special unit of distance used at sea. The lighthouse's light flashes white two times every seven seconds. This special pattern helps sailors know which lighthouse they are seeing.
The Port authority of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife takes care of this lighthouse. They make sure it is always working properly to guide ships safely.
