Pulicat Lake is a really big lake in India! It's the second largest lake in the country that has "brackish water." Pulicat Lake stretches across two Indian states: Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Most of it, about 96%, is in Andhra Pradesh. Only a small part, around 3%, is in Tamil Nadu. It sits right on the Coromandel Coast, which is a beautiful coastline in South India.

A Home for Birds

Pulicat Lake is super important because it's home to the Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a special protected area where many different kinds of birds come to live, feed, and raise their young. It's a fantastic place for birdwatching!

A long, narrow piece of land called Sriharikota acts like a natural wall, separating Pulicat Lake from the big Bay of Bengal. This island is famous because it's where the Satish Dhawan Space Centre is located. This is India's main spaceport, where rockets are launched into space! How the Lake Got its Name

At the southern end of the lake, there's a fishing village also called Pulicat. The lake gets its name from this village. It's a place where local fishermen have lived and worked for a very long time.
