Pullman, Richmond, California facts for kids
Pullman is a neighborhood found in Richmond, California. It was named after the Pullman Company, a famous company started by George Mortimer Pullman. In 1910, his company built a large factory here.
This factory, called The Pullman Shops, was very important. It was where the well-known Pullman sleeping cars were built and fixed. These special train cars were used all over the United States for many years. During World War II, the factory played a big part in helping the war effort. The Pullman shop in Richmond closed its doors on December 31, 1959.
Pullman Neighborhood: Past and Present
Today, the Pullman area has changed a lot. Most of it has been rebuilt into homes, like apartments. You can also find a few local shops along Carlson and Cutting Boulevard. A railroad track runs along the edge of the neighborhood.
Two of the original Pullman shop buildings are still standing today at 350 Carlson Blvd. They are a reminder of the area's history.
