The Punjab States Agency was a special office set up by the British Empire in India. It was created in the 1930s. This agency helped manage many small kingdoms, known as princely states, in northwest India.

The Punjab States Agency was a political office. It was created by the British to help them manage different areas. Before this agency, these states were looked after by the British province of Punjab.
How Did It Work?
The agency was similar to other British offices, like the Central India Agency. It worked with forty different princely states. These states were not directly ruled by the British. Instead, they had their own rulers, but they followed British advice.
When Was It Created and Changed?
The agency started in the 1930s. In 1936, a new group was formed from it. This new group was called the Punjab Hill States agency.
What Happened After 1947?
In 1947, British rule in India ended. This event is known as the Partition of India. Most of the states that were part of the Punjab States Agency decided to join the new country of Union of India. The remaining states chose to join the Dominion of Pakistan.
