Puritan, Ohio facts for kids
Puritan is a small, unincorporated community located in Vinton County, in the state of Ohio, USA. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Puritan is found to the east of Hamden, Ohio, and to the west of Wilkesville, Ohio. It is also north of Wellston, Ohio.
History of Puritan
Puritan has an interesting past, especially known for making bricks. Long ago, this area was busy with brick factories. Bricks were very important for building homes and other structures.
What's Left Today
Even though the brick-making days are mostly over, you can still find some signs of Puritan's history.
- The only remaining coal company in Vinton County, called Sands Hill Mining, is located where Puritan once thrived.
- There is also a church in the community.
- A nursing home provides care for people.
- You can still see some of the old buildings from the original brick plant. These buildings are a reminder of the community's industrial past.
