History of Wilkesville

Wilkesville was first planned and settled in the year 1810. It received its name from a person known as Mr. Wilkes, who was the original owner of the land where the village now stands. A post office opened in Wilkesville in 1819, helping the community stay connected. The village officially became an incorporated village in 1881.
