Daniel Dove (born October 25, 1994), known professionally as Pvrx (pronounced Pie-Rex), is a Canadian rapper, singer, and songwriter. Pvrx is famous for telling stories in his music about growing up in a challenging neighborhood. He signed with Def Jam Recordings in 2017. His first album, an EP called 3.14, came out on July 26, 2019.

About Pvrx

Pvrx was born and grew up in the Rexdale area of Toronto, Ontario. This neighborhood is also why he chose his stage name. He is the youngest of three children, raised by his single mother from Jamaica. His mother loved listening to dancehall music. Pvrx was influenced by artists like The Lox, Jay-Z, Eminem, and 50 Cent. He has shared that he faced many challenges growing up, which he often talks about in his songs. Making music became a way for him to deal with these tough experiences.

Music Journey

Starting Out and a Break (2011–2015)

Pvrx began rapping and singing in 2011 when he was 17 years old. He used the name Onsight RX at first. Music helped him express his feelings about his life. During this time, he released many freestyle songs with other artists from Rexdale, like Moula 1st. In 2012, he released his first joint album, 2 Hot 2 Handle, with Moula 1st, who is also a rapper and producer. Pvrx stopped making music in 2013 but returned in 2016.

Becoming Famous and Signing with Def Jam (2016–2019)

After his break, a person who was helping Pvrx suggested he join The Remix Project. This program helps young people who need extra support to succeed in creative fields. After hearing his music, Producer Hagler and DJ Agile accepted him into the program.

Gavin Sheppard, who started the program, played Pvrx's songs for DJ Joe Kay. Joe Kay then connected Pvrx's manager with Scott Vener, a music supervisor for HBO. Scott Vener liked Pvrx's song Make It, which came out in June 2016. He used it in the TV show Ballers in late 2016. Scott Vener also told Paul Rosenberg, the CEO of Def Jam Recordings, about Pvrx. Rosenberg met Pvrx in Toronto, and Pvrx became the first artist Rosenberg signed in November 2017. Around this time, some people also thought he might sign with Drake's OVO Sound record label.

Pvrx first appeared on a Def Jam album called Undisputed. He released his first songs with Def Jam, Mixed by 40 and Know Me, in August 2018.

Pvrx released his first EP (a shorter album) called 3.14 on July 26, 2019. It had 7 songs and lasted 28 minutes. The album was known for its catchy tunes and storytelling lyrics. It featured guest artists like Dave East and Yung Pinch. Two songs from the album, Make It and Is U Down, got over a million views in just one month. The album had production from FrancisGotHeat, Moula 1st, and Nineteen85, among others. Pvrx was also featured on 6ixBuzz's album NorthernSound, which came out on December 13, 2019.
