Pyotr Kotlyarevsky: A Brave General
Early Life and Military Start
Pyotr Kotlyarevsky was born in 1782 in a village called Olkhovatka, near Kharkiv. His father was a church leader. Pyotr grew up in an army camp near Mozdok. He learned about military life from a young age.
He showed great courage during a military trip to Persia in 1796. Because of his brave actions, he was made an officer. This was the start of his impressive military career.
Becoming a National Hero
Kotlyarevsky became very famous for his strong leadership and bravery. This happened during two important wars: the Russo-Turkish War (1806–1812) and the Russo-Persian War (1804–13) (1804–1813).
Key Victories and Achievements
In 1810, he captured the Meghri Citadel. This was a strong fortress. He then defended it against a large Persian army. After that, he defeated the Persians near the Araks River.
In 1812, Kotlyarevsky achieved even more. He defeated the Persian leader Abbas Mirza in the Battle of Aslanduz. Later, he led only 2,500 soldiers to attack and capture Lankaran. This was a very difficult task.
Retirement and Legacy
After these victories, the Persians asked for peace. Kotlyarevsky was promoted to General of Infantry. This was a very high rank, like a Full General.
He had been badly wounded in battle. Because of his injuries, he had to leave the army. He spent the rest of his life in Feodosiya, a port city on the Black Sea. He passed away there when he was 70 years old.
A famous artist named Ivan Aivazovsky designed Kotlyarevsky's mausoleum (a special tomb). Also, Prince Vorontsov ordered a statue of him to be built in Ganja. These show how much he was respected.
