About Qin Wenjun's Life and Work
Qin Wenjun was born in Shanghai, China, in 1954. When she was 17, in 1971, she went to work in a forest area in Heilongjiang province. This was part of a program where young people helped develop rural parts of China.
Her first story, a short novel called "Shining Fireflies," was published in 1981. She later studied language and literature at East China Normal University, graduating in 1984. After that, she worked as an editor at the Shanghai Children's Press, helping to create books for young readers.
Today, Qin Wenjun holds important positions. She is the Director-General of the Shanghai Board on Books for Young People. She is also the Vice President of the Shanghai Writers Association. Her books have been turned into movies and TV shows, winning top awards in China. Her stories have also been translated into many languages, including English, Dutch, Japanese, and Korean.
In the 1990s, Qin Wenjun started using humor in her stories about modern teenagers. Her book Schoolboy Jia Li (published in 1993) has sold over a million copies! She believes that children's literature should truly understand and protect the feelings of young people. Her unique way of writing has made children's books stronger and more meaningful.
Awards and Special Honours
Qin Wenjun has received many awards for her amazing books. Here are some of them:
- 2017: She was nominated for the 2018 Hans Christian Andersen Award. This is a very important international award for children's authors.
- 2016: Her book My Marble-Hearted Father won a Best Literary Work Award at the Chen Bochui Children's Literature Awards.
- 2002: She was shortlisted for the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
- 1999: She was shortlisted for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
- 1998: Her book 《四弟的绿庄园》 won the Bing Xin Children’s Literature Award.
- 1997: Her book 《男生贾里》Jia Li won 1st prize in the National Outstanding Children’s Literature Award (China).
- 1997: 《男生贾里》Jia Li also won the China Writers Association Children's Literature Award.
- 1997: And it won the Shanghai City 3rd Children's Literature Award.
- 1997: Her book 《宝贝当家》 won the National (全国五个一工程奖).

- 1996: Her book 《家有小丑》 won the Taiwan Nine Songs Children's Literature Award.
