Quaesitosaurus (say "KWE-see-toh-SORE-us") means "abnormal or extraordinary lizard." This amazing dinosaur was a huge, plant-eating giant with a very long neck and a whip-like tail. It lived a long, long time ago, about 85 to 80 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous Period. Scientists found its remains in the Gobi Desert, which is in Mongolia.

Meet Quaesitosaurus: A Giant Dinosaur
Quaesitosaurus was a type of sauropod dinosaur. Sauropods are famous for their incredibly long necks, massive bodies, and long tails. Quaesitosaurus was no exception! It could grow to be about 75 feet (23 meters) long. Imagine a dinosaur as long as two school buses parked end-to-end!
What Did Quaesitosaurus Eat?
Like all sauropods, Quaesitosaurus was a herbivore, meaning it only ate plants. Its long neck would have helped it reach leaves high up in trees, or perhaps graze on plants closer to the ground.
Where Did Quaesitosaurus Live?
The fossils of Quaesitosaurus were discovered in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. During the Mesozoic Era, when this dinosaur lived, the area was not a desert like today. It was a semi-arid environment, meaning it was quite dry but still had enough plant life to support huge plant-eating dinosaurs.
When Did Quaesitosaurus Live?
Quaesitosaurus lived during the late Cretaceous Period, which was the last part of the Age of Dinosaurs. This was roughly 85 to 80 million years ago, not long before dinosaurs became extinct.
Is Quaesitosaurus Related to Other Dinosaurs?
Some scientists think that Quaesitosaurus might be very similar to, or even the same dinosaur as, another sauropod called Nemegtosaurus. Both were found in the same region and lived around the same time. More discoveries might help scientists figure out if they are truly different species or just variations of the same one.
