About the Cuale Oak

The Quercus cualensis is also known as the Cuale Oak. It's a type of tree that stays green all year round. This means its leaves don't fall off in the autumn like many other trees. It can grow quite tall, reaching up to 15 meters (about 49 feet) high. That's like a four-story building! The trunk of this tree can also be wide, up to 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) across.

What it Looks Like

The leaves of the Cuale Oak are thin and flat. They don't have any fuzzy hairs on them. They are shaped like a narrow spear, which is called lance-shaped. Each leaf can be up to 15 centimeters (about 6 inches) long.

Where it Lives

This unique oak tree lives only in a specific part of Mexico. It grows in the mountains of Sierra el Cuale. This area is known for its beautiful nature and is located south of Puerto Vallarta. Because it's found in such a small area, it's considered a very rare species.

Why it's Important

The Cuale Oak is listed as an endangered species. This means there aren't many of these trees left in the world. Scientists and conservationists work to protect trees like the Cuale Oak. They want to make sure these special plants continue to thrive for future generations. Protecting their habitat is key to helping them survive.
