Quinn Henderson Becker (born June 11, 1930 – died March 13, 2022) was an important leader in the United States Army. He reached the high rank of Lieutenant General. From 1985 to 1988, he served as the Surgeon General of the United States Army. This means he was the top doctor and leader for all medical services in the Army.

Becker was a special kind of doctor called an orthopedic surgeon. These doctors help people with bone and joint problems. He studied at Louisiana State University's School of Medicine.

Early Life and Education

Quinn Becker was born in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1930. He went to Northeast Louisiana State College and earned his first degree in 1952. After that, he continued his studies to become a doctor. In 1956, he received his medical degree (M.D.) and officially joined the Army.

A Career in Military Medicine

Before becoming the Surgeon General, Quinn Becker held several important jobs in the Army. He was the leader of the United States Army Academy of Health Sciences. This school trains many of the Army's medical professionals. He also served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the Army, which is the second-highest medical position.

Becker was also the Chief Surgeon for the U.S. European Command. This role meant he was in charge of medical care for U.S. military members and their families stationed in Europe. In March 1985, he was promoted to Lieutenant General, a very high rank in the Army.

Serving as Surgeon General

As the Surgeon General of the United States Army, Lieutenant General Becker was responsible for the health and well-being of all soldiers. He oversaw medical policies, hospitals, and healthcare programs for the entire Army. His work helped ensure that soldiers received the best possible medical care, both in peacetime and during conflicts. He served in this role until May 1988.

Later Life

Lieutenant General Quinn H. Becker passed away on March 13, 2022, at the age of 91. He dedicated many years of his life to serving his country through military medicine.
