The Quintard Mall is a large indoor shopping center located in Oxford, Alabama, in the United States. It first opened its doors in August 1970. Later, in 2000, the mall was made even bigger. Today, it has about 720,000 square feet (67,000 m2) of space for stores.

The main stores, called anchor stores, at Quintard Mall are Dillard's and JCPenney. An anchor store is usually a very large department store that helps attract shoppers to the mall. The mall also has a movie theater called AmStar 12 Cinemas, where you can watch the latest films.

Mall History: How Quintard Mall Began

Quintard Mall was built by a developer named James A. Grimmer. It officially opened in August 1970. When it first opened, the mall had 32 smaller stores inside. It also had two main anchor stores: JCPenney and Britt's Department Store. Britt's was a department store owned by J.J. Newberry.

Changes Over the Years

In the early 1980s, the Britt's store closed down. Sears then took over that space. Sears even made the building bigger in 1997.

Plans to expand the mall started in the mid-1990s. Building the new part was a bit tricky because of a drainage ditch called Snow Creek. The builders had to cover it up so they could build over it. It took several years to get all the necessary permits.

Another big change happened when Gayfers, which was supposed to be a new anchor store, was bought by Dillard's in 1998. This caused more delays for the mall's expansion.

New Stores and Renovations

The expanded part of the mall finally opened in 2000. This new section brought in Dillard's as a major store. It also added a food court, which is a place with many different restaurants, and a movie theater.

In 2006, a store called Goody's opened at the mall. However, it closed down in early 2009 when the Goody's chain went out of business. Luckily, the store reopened in March 2010.

On April 22, 2016, Sears announced that many of its stores would be closing, including the one at Quintard Mall. The Sears store closed in July 2016.

In 2019, the mall started big renovations to become more like a "lifestyle center." This means they updated the inside of the mall. They also changed some stores to have outside entrances. The old Britt's/Sears building was taken down to make way for new developments.
