About Quintard Taylor
Quintard Taylor was born on December 11, 1948. His parents were Quintard Taylor Sr. and Grace Taylor. He grew up in Brownsville, Tennessee. He finished high school there.
He later married Carolyn. They have three children: Quintard III, and twins William and Jamila.
His Education Journey
Taylor went to St. Augustine's College (North Carolina). He earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in American History in 1969. He was very interested in history. This was especially true because of the civil rights movement happening in the 1960s.
After college, he continued his studies. He earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1971. He then completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 1977. Both of these degrees were in History from the University of Minnesota. At the University of Minnesota, a professor named Allan Spear helped start a program. This program focused on African American history.
Teaching Career
Dr. Taylor taught at several universities. He shared his knowledge with many students. He worked at Washington State University and California Polytechnic State University. He also taught at the University of Oregon.
In 1999, he became a professor at the University of Washington. He taught American History there for over 18 years. He retired from teaching in June 2018.
BlackPast.org
One of Dr. Taylor's most important achievements is founding BlackPast.org. This website is a huge online resource. It provides information about African-American history. It covers many topics and events.
