Quinua is a small, historic town located high in the mountains of Peru. It is found in the Quinua District, within the Huamanga Province of the Ayacucho Region. The town sits at an altitude of about 3,300 meters (10,830 ft), which is very high up!

Quinua is famous for being the place where the important Battle of Ayacucho happened in 1824. This battle was a big step for Peru to become independent.

For a long time, Quinua was known for its beautiful handmade pottery. It was also a stop for travelers going between the larger towns of Huamanga (also called Ayacucho) and Huanta. People in Quinua mostly grew their own food to live, which is called subsistence farming.

In 1974, something special happened. Peru celebrated 150 years since the Battle of Ayacucho. To get ready, a new paved road was built connecting Quinua to Huamanga. This made the trip much shorter, from half a day to less than an hour! A tall obelisk, which is a monument, was also built to remember the 44-year fight for independence. It stands 44-meter (144 ft) high.

After a difficult time in Peru, Quinua started to become a popular place for tourists. The town used its history to attract visitors. More than 10,000 people visit Quinua every year!
