A Glimpse into History
Quisapincha was once a very important place for the local Kisapincha people. They bravely stood up against outsiders who tried to take their land. Many Kisapincha people still live in communities high up in the mountains, in a part called Quisapincha Alto.
Long ago, it was very hard for anyone outside the community to enter Quisapincha Alto. The paths were watched closely. Locals remember that it was almost impossible for outsiders to get in until about 1975. This helped the community protect its way of life.
In the past, many babies in Quisapincha did not survive. But things have changed a lot since then. In 1992, the local people stood up for their rights. They took back land that belonged to their community from the church. This also helped them get a voice in local government. However, they still face challenges from other townspeople.
