Quíbor is a city located in the state of Lara, Venezuela. About 70,536 people live there. The city is known for its rich history and the ancient crafts found in the area.
History of Quíbor
The area where Quíbor is located was home to people long before Europeans arrived. The first time Europeans wrote about this region was in 1545. A person named López Montalvo de Lugo explored the valley of Quíbor. He was sent there by the governor, Jorge de la Espira.
The official founding of Quíbor happened in June 1620. Francisco de la Hoz Berríos, who was a Captain General in Venezuela, ordered it. Even though a native American village already existed there, the new settlement was officially named Nuestra Señora de Altagracia de Quíbor.
