Discovering Rättvik Town
The main town of Rättvik sits right by the beautiful Lake Siljan. In 2005, about 4,588 people lived there. The town is famous for its long history of folk music and the stunning views around Lake Siljan. Many visitors to Sweden include Rättvik on their trips to see a traditional Swedish way of life.
Some people believe that Rättvik's culture and landscape are truly "Swedish." For example, Rättvik still has its lovely old church right by the water. This church is surrounded by old "church stables." In the past, people who came to church would leave their horses there.
Every year, a fun folk music festival called "Music at Siljan" happens in Rättvik. It takes place right on the shores of Lake Siljan.
Just 7 kilometers (about 4.3 miles) north of the town, you can find the annual summer opera festival, the Dalhalla Opera. This amazing event is held in an open-air theater. It's built inside an old limestone quarry!
If you like sports, the bandy club IFK Rättvik has its own indoor arena in the town.
