Important Features of the Area
Río Cañas Arriba is located near the Guayabal reservoir. A reservoir is like a big lake that stores water.
Safety Near the Reservoir
If too much rain falls, the reservoir can get very full. If it gets too full, special doors on the dam might open automatically to release water. This helps prevent the dam from breaking. If these doors open, people living nearby would need to leave their homes quickly for safety.
In August 2020, during the heavy rains from Hurricane Laura, the reservoir almost became too full. Residents in Río Cañas Arriba were told to be ready to evacuate if the dam's doors opened. This shows how important it is for people to be aware of their surroundings and listen to safety warnings during heavy storms.
