Raavi Kondala Rao (born February 11, 1932 – died July 28, 2020) was a talented Indian artist. He was an actor, a writer for movies, a writer for plays, and a journalist. He worked mainly in Telugu cinema (movies) and Telugu theatre (plays). He acted in more than 400 films!
He won the Nandi Award for Best Story Writer for his movie Pelli Pusthakam (1991). He also won the Nandi Award for Best Book on Telugu Cinema for his book Black and White.
Raavi Kondala Rao started his film career as an actor in 1958 with the movie Sobha. He became well-known for his acting in Preminchi Choodu (1964). He often worked with famous director Bapu and writer Ramana. He also wrote for popular films like Brundavanam (1992), Bhairava Dweepam (1994), and Sri Krishnarjuna Vijayam (1996).
Besides movies, he was an editor, writer, and columnist for newspapers and magazines. He was an associate editor for the popular film magazine Vijaya Chitra from 1966 to 1990. Later, he joined Chandamama Vijaya production house as a writer and executive producer.

Early Life and Education
Raavi Kondala Rao was born on February 11, 1932, in Srikakulam, which is in Andhra Pradesh today. His father worked as a postmaster. He completed his education in Srikakulam.
In 1948, he took part in a peaceful protest called Satyagraha in Rajahmundry. This protest was against a ban on certain groups. He was put in jail for three months. While in Rajahmundry Jail, he spent his free time reading many books. He also started writing stories using the pen name 'Mana Oohalu'. Some of his stories were even published in the famous magazine Chandamama.
His Career Journey
Raavi Kondala Rao wrote articles for the Mahodaya weekly newspaper. He also worked as a sub-editor for the Aanandavani weekly magazine. He wrote a special column called 'Paata Bangaram' in Sitara magazine, which belongs to the Eenadu group. He also wrote articles about cinema for Andhra Jyothi and Vijaya Chitra.
A writer named Kodavatiganti Kutumba Rao inspired him to write. Later, Mullapudi Venkata Ramana and Gutha Ramineedu encouraged him to act in films. He also worked as an assistant director for famous directors like B. N. Reddy, Kamalakara Kameswara Rao, and D. V. Narasa Raju. He was an assistant director for Nartanasala (1963) and Pooja Phalam (1964).
Family Life
Raavi Kondala Rao was married to the well-known actress Radha Kumari. They acted together in almost 100 films! His brother, R. Kameswara Rao, was a leading dubbing artist, meaning he gave voices to characters in films.
Raavi Kondala Rao passed away from a heart attack on July 28, 2020, in Hyderabad. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his son, R. V. Sasikumar.
