Sir Rabbie Langanai Namaliu (3 April 1947 – 31 March 2023) was a very important politician from Papua New Guinea. He served as the country's fourth Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea from 1988 to 1992. He was also a leader of the Pangu Party.

Early Life and Education
Rabbie Namaliu was born on April 3, 1947, in the East New Britain Province. This area was part of the Territory of New Guinea at the time. He belonged to the Tolai people, an ethnic group from East New Britain.
He went to school in Papua New Guinea. Later, he continued his studies in Canada. He attended the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a professor. He taught political science at the University of Papua New Guinea.
Building a New Nation
After Papua New Guinea became independent in 1975, Rabbie Namaliu played a key role. He was one of four important government officials. These four people helped set up the public services and government rules for the new country.
They were sometimes called the "Gang of Four". This name showed how important they were in building Papua New Guinea's government. The others were Mekere Morauta, Anthony Siaguru, and Charles Lepani.
Political Career
Rabbie Namaliu had a long career in politics. He held several important jobs in the government.
Foreign Minister and Prime Minister
He first served as the country's foreign minister from 1982 to 1984. During this time, he worked closely with Michael Somare, who was the prime minister. This was the start of a long partnership between them.
From July 1988 to July 1992, Sir Rabbie Namaliu was the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. While he was prime minister, Michael Somare served as his foreign minister. This was a unique situation where they swapped roles.
Later Roles in Government
After his time as prime minister, he continued to be active in politics. In 2002, he became foreign minister again. He was part of the National Alliance Party government, led by Michael Somare.
He stayed as foreign minister until July 2006. Then, he became the finance minister during a change in government roles. In the 2007 election, he lost his seat in parliament. However, he did not rule out returning to politics in the future.
Personal Life
In 1987, Rabbie Namaliu married Margaret Nakikus. She was also a civil servant and led the country's National Planning Office. They had two sons, Isaac and Langanai (who was also called Rabbie Jnr.). They also had an adopted daughter named Joy.
After he left politics in 1992, he spent time with his wife. Margaret was ill with leukaemia and was in a hospital in Brisbane, Australia. She passed away in 1992.
Sir Rabbie Langanai Namaliu died on March 31, 2023, at the age of 75.
