Rachel Cargle is an American activist, speaker, and writer who works for social justice. She is known for starting the Loveland Foundation, which helps Black women and girls get therapy.

Rachel Cargle's Early Life and School
Rachel Cargle grew up in Green, Ohio. Her mother had polio, and her father passed away when Rachel was young. They lived in government-supported housing in a rich neighborhood. This made Rachel see how different her family's financial situation was from her friends'.
After finishing high school, Rachel joined the Air National Guard and served for six years. She said her time in the military made her think more carefully about big organizations. She learned not to automatically trust that they were always helping people.
Rachel studied anthropology and sociology at the University of Toledo for two years. Then, at age 23, she moved to Washington, D.C.. Later, she went to Columbia University. However, she decided to leave before graduating. This was after an event in April 2019 where university police followed a Black male student. He had not shown his student ID when asked. Rachel said she "couldn’t stomach paying the university money anymore."
Rachel Cargle's Career and Activism
In 2017, a picture of Rachel Cargle and her friend went viral. They were holding signs at the 2017 Women's March. Rachel's sign said, "If You Don’t Fight for All Women You Fight for No Women." This photo brought Rachel national attention. Many people praised her message.
Rachel started learning more about feminist issues. She then gave popular talks at several universities. Her lecture series was called "Unpacking White Feminism." In her talks and work, Rachel has pushed for Intersectionality. This means understanding how different parts of a person's identity, like race and gender, can combine to create unique experiences of discrimination.
Layla Saad, another activist, has said that Rachel is good at discussing ideas and teaching her followers on social media. Rachel mainly focuses on fighting racism. Her Instagram account grew a lot, from 355,000 followers in 2016 to 1.7 million followers by 2020.
After a fundraising campaign, Rachel Cargle started the Loveland Foundation. This is a nonprofit organization that helps Black women and girls get access to therapy. Rachel has also spoken out against the idea of "wellness" being sold as a product.
In 2019, Rachel studied at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. She also studied with Imani Perry from Princeton University. In 2020, she opened a writing center and bookstore in Akron, Ohio. It is called Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre. Rachel has a book coming out with The Dial Press. It will explore how race, feminism, and womanhood connect. Her work has also been featured in well-known publications. These include The Washington Post, Glamour Magazine, PopSugar, and Essence.
In 2020, Global Citizen recognized Rachel Cargle as an important activist for racial causes. They praised her for teaching the public about "racial injustice, systemic racism, feminism, white supremacy, and countless other issue."
