Orites myrtoidea, also known as the radal enano, is a type of shrub. A shrub is a woody plant that is smaller than a tree. It has many branches growing from the ground. This plant belongs to the Proteaceae family, which is a group of flowering plants.
This plant is quite rare. You can find it growing in special places called lava fields. These fields are found in the Andes mountains in Chile. Lava fields are areas where lava from volcanoes has cooled down and hardened.
About the Radal Enano
The radal enano usually grows to be about 0.5 to 1 meter tall. Sometimes, it can even reach up to 2 meters high. Its leaves are small, about 3 centimeters long and 10 millimeters wide.
Flowers and Fruits
The flowers of the radal enano are white or yellowish. They grow in tight bunches called racemes. These flowers appear between October and November. This is during the middle to late spring in its native home.
After the flowers, the plant grows reddish-brown fruits. These fruits appear in the autumn. Inside the fruits are seeds that have small wings. These wings help the seeds to fly away in the wind. This helps the plant spread to new places.
Where it Grows
This unique shrub is found only in the Andes mountains. Specifically, it grows in Chile. It prefers the tough conditions of lava fields. This shows how strong and adaptable this plant is.
