Rafael Cadenas (born April 8, 1930, in Barquisimeto, Lara) is a famous Venezuelan poet and essayist. An essayist is someone who writes essays, which are short pieces of writing on a particular subject.

His Journey and Achievements
Rafael Cadenas taught for many years at the Central University of Venezuela, sharing his knowledge with students. He has received many important awards for his writing.
In 1985, he won the National Prize for Literature in Venezuela. Later, in 2009, he received the Guadalajara's International Book Fair prize of literature in Mexico. He also won the García Lorca Prize in 2015.
A very special moment for him was in 2022 when he was awarded the Miguel de Cervantes Prize. This is the highest award for writers who contribute to literature in the Spanish language. Rafael Cadenas was the first Venezuelan ever to receive this honor. He officially received the prize on April 24, 2023.
