Rageh Sami Daoud is a famous Egyptian composer born on November 23, 1954. He writes contemporary classical music, which is a type of music created in modern times. He is known for composing music for the piano, for singers (voice), and for large groups of instruments (orchestra). Rageh Daoud has also written music for many movies, making him a well-known name in both classical music and film scores.

Life and Musical Journey

Rageh Daoud was born in Cairo, Egypt. His musical adventure began early when he started studying at the Cairo Conservatoire at just nine years old. He learned how to compose music from a great teacher named Gamal Abdel-Rahim. Rageh Daoud graduated in 1977, showing his talent and hard work. He also studied how to play the piano.

After graduating, he became an assistant at the Conservatoire in 1978. He then received a special scholarship in 1981 to study composition even further in Vienna, Austria, at the Vienna Music Academy. There, he continued to learn and grow as a composer, earning his graduate diploma in 1987 and a higher degree (Magister Artium) in 1988.

When Rageh Daoud returned to Egypt in late 1988, he continued teaching at the Cairo Conservatoire. Today, he is a professor there, sharing his knowledge with new generations of musicians. He has created many pieces for orchestras, smaller groups of instruments (chamber compositions), and piano.

His music has been performed all over the world, including cities like Cairo, Vienna, Paris, London, and many others. This shows how much his music is appreciated internationally. He has also won several awards for his film music at different cinema festivals in Egypt. Rageh Daoud even started and led an orchestra called the Chamber Orchestra of the Hanager Center to help new Egyptian music become more popular.

In 1997, he received a special award from the Ministry of Culture for his musical work called Two Portrait for String Orchestra. He has also been a judge for piano competitions and was invited to play his music at international events. Since 2001, he has been in charge of the Committee for Music, Opera, and Ballet in Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture. In 2017, he helped create the music for the new national anthem of Mauritania, which is a big honor!

His work also extends to theater, where he composed music for plays like "Priest’s Trial" (1994) and "King Lear" (2001).
