Ragnar Sigurðsson (born on June 19, 1986) is a former professional footballer from Iceland. He played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football. Ragnar started his career with Fylkir in Iceland. He then played for several teams in different countries.
Ragnar was also a very important player for the Iceland national team. He played 97 games for his country between 2007 and 2020. He helped Iceland reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. He also represented Iceland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. After retiring as a player in 2021, Ragnar became an assistant manager for Fram Reykjavik in November 2022. In July 2023, he took over as caretaker manager for the team.

Playing for IFK Göteborg
After playing for Fylkir in Iceland, Ragnar moved to Sweden in 2006. He joined the Swedish club IFK Göteborg. He made his first appearance in the Allsvenskan league on April 6, 2007. Ragnar played in almost all of the team's league matches that season. He formed a strong defense with his teammate Mattias Bjärsmyr. Together, they helped IFK Göteborg win the Allsvenskan 2007 league title. In 2008, the club also won the Supercupen and Svenska Cupen.
Moving to F.C. Copenhagen
On May 30, 2011, Ragnar signed a four-year contract with F.C. Copenhagen, a top club in Denmark. He continued to play strong defense for the team.
Time with FC Krasnodar
In January 2014, Ragnar moved to Russia. He signed a contract with FC Krasnodar, a club in the Russian Football Premier League. He played for Krasnodar for about two and a half years.
Joining Fulham in England
On August 23, 2016, Ragnar joined Fulham, a team in England's Championship league. He scored his first goal for Fulham on December 26, 2016. This goal helped Fulham win their match against Ipswich Town 2-0.
Returning to Russia with Rubin Kazan and Rostov
In August 2017, Ragnar went back to Russia. He joined FC Rubin Kazan on a loan deal for the 2017–18 season. In January 2018, he made a permanent move to FC Rostov. At Rostov, he played alongside his Icelandic national teammates Sverrir Ingi Ingason and Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson. His contract with Rostov ended in January 2020.
Back to Copenhagen and Rukh Lviv
Ragnar returned to Copenhagen in January 2020 for a short period. In January 2021, he moved to Rukh Lviv in Ukraine. He played there until the summer of 2021. After this, he retired from playing professional football at his first club, Fylkir.

UEFA Euro 2016 Success
Ragnar was chosen to be part of Iceland's team for UEFA Euro 2016. This was a huge moment for Icelandic football. He scored his first goal for Iceland on November 16, 2014, during a qualifying match for Euro 2016.
A memorable moment came on June 27, 2016. Ragnar scored Iceland's first goal in a surprising 2-1 win against England in the round of 16. His excellent play in that match earned him the "man of the match" award. He also made an amazing tackle to stop an England player from scoring.
Playing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup
In May 2018, Ragnar was again selected for Iceland's team. This time, it was for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. Playing in the World Cup is a dream for many footballers.
