Rahman Rezaei (Persian: رحمان رضايی, born on February 20, 1975) is a famous Iranian football coach and former player. He was a strong centre-back (a defender who plays in the middle). He also played for the Iran national team.

Rahman Rezaei's Club Career
Rahman Rezaei was first discovered by a well-known Iranian football manager, Nasser Hejazi. Rezaei played for Zob Ahan in Isfahan for five seasons. He played so well for his club and the national team that he moved to Perugia in Italy. Later, he joined Messina.
Playing in Italy
Rahman Rezaei became one of the most successful Asian defenders to play in Europe. In the 2003-2004 season, he helped his team, Messina, get promoted to Serie A. Serie A is the top football league in Italy. He was a very important player for Messina, playing in 36 games during the 2004-2005 season. After playing consistently for three seasons, Rezaei signed with another Serie A club, Livorno, in August 2006.
He earned many compliments in Italy. Fans and experts called him "The Flying Carpet" because of how well he moved on the field. His fans in Messina also nicknamed him the "Secretary of Defense." In January 2006, he became an Italian citizen. This happened after he married Helia Hashemi, who is Italian-Iranian.
Later Club Teams
In July 2008, there were talks about Rezaei joining the big Iranian club Persepolis. However, the club's manager decided they did not need a centre-back at that time.
On August 10, 2009, Rezaei signed a one-year contract with the Qatari team Al Ahli SC. In 2010, he moved back to Iran to play for Shahin Bushehr. About six months later, he joined Paykan. Rahman Rezaei officially stopped playing professional football on July 4, 2012.
Rahman Rezaei's International Career
Rahman Rezaei played his first game for the Iran national team in July 2001. This match was against Bosnia. Since then, he was a very reliable defender for the team.
In European football, Rahman Rezaei was known as a strong defender who could also start quick attacks. However, for the Iranian national team, his main job was to be a solid centre-back. He used to play as a forward (an attacking player) earlier in his career. But he became a crucial defender for Iran, a team known for its strong attackers.
He was one of Iran's key players in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He played in 54 international matches for Iran and scored 3 goals.
International Goals
Rahman Rezaei scored three goals for the Iran national team:
- On May 30, 2002, against Kuwait in a friendly match.
- On June 3, 2005, against North Korea in a World Cup qualification game.
- On May 28, 2006, against Bosnia and Herzegovina in another friendly match.
