Club History
How Paykan FC Started
The Paykan Football Club began in 1967. Mahmoud Khayami helped start it with money from the Iran Khodro car factory. The main goal was to help promote the factory's cars and make their name more popular. In 1969, the team became champions of the Tehran City League. But in 1970, the team was closed down. This happened because of problems between the players and the people running the club.
Paykan's Return to Football

Paykan did not have a football team for many years after 1970. The club focused on other sports during the 1980s. It wasn't until the year 2000 that Paykan got a football team again. They bought the rights from another team, Bahman. This allowed Paykan to join the top football league in Iran after 30 years. The team played in the 2000–01 Azadegan League with Bahman's players, but they had a new coach.
The team didn't have much success at first. They were moved down from the Iran Pro League in the 2004–05 season. But they worked hard and came back to the IPL for the 2006–07 season. That year, they finished in 7th place.
Moving to Qazvin City
In 2008, Paykan moved to Qazvin. This was because Tehran already had many football teams. Also, not many fans were coming to their games in Tehran. They started the 2008–09 season well. However, their results got worse towards the end. The team changed their coach in the final weeks. They still finished in the middle of the league table. Even though they finished in the top half in the 2009–10 season, the club chairman decided to get a new head coach. Paykan was moved down again in 2010–2011. But the next year, they earned their way back to the Iran Pro League for the 2012–2013 season.
Playing in Tehran and Qods
Paykan moved back to Tehran and started playing at the Takhti Stadium. But in April 2013, Paykan was moved down to the Azadegan League once more. Before the 2013–14 season, Paykan moved again. This time, they went to the city of Qods. In the 2013–2014 season, Paykan finished 2nd in the Azadegan League. This gave them a chance to get back into the Iran Pro League.
Paykan won against Siah Jamegan with a total score of 3–1. This meant they would play against Fajr Sepasi from the Iran Pro League. The first game ended in a 0–0 tie. But in the second game in Qods, Paykan scored one goal in the 65th minute. This single goal helped them win and get promoted! Paykan announced they would play in Qods for the 2014–15 Persian Gulf Pro League season. At the end of that season, Paykan finished 15th and was moved down again.
In the 2015–16 Azadegan League season, Paykan finished first. This meant they were directly promoted back to the Persian Gulf Pro League.
