About Paykan Football Club
How the Club Started
Paykan Football Club began in 1967. It was started by Mahmoud Khayami with money from the Iran Khodro car factory. The main goal was to help promote the factory's cars and make their name more well-known. In 1969, the team became champions of the Tehran City League. However, the team stopped playing in 1970 because of problems between the players and the people managing the club.
The Club's Comeback

For many years, Paykan Sport Club did not have a football team. This changed in the year 2000. They were able to buy parts of another team, Bahman, and join the top football league in Iran. This was 30 years after their first team stopped playing. They played in the 2000–01 Azadegan League with Bahman's players but had a new coach.
The team did not have much success at first. They were moved down from the Iran Pro League in the 2004–05 season. But they came back to the IPL for the 2006–07 season and finished in 7th place.
Moving Around Iran
In 2008, Paykan moved to Qazvin. This was because the city of Tehran already had many football teams, and not many people were coming to Paykan's games. They started the season well, but their results got worse later on. The team changed their coach near the end of the 2008–09 season. They finished in the middle of the league table. Even though they finished in the top half in the 2009–10 season, the club chairman decided to get a new head coach.
Paykan was moved down from the league again in 2010–2011. But the next year, they played well and earned their way back to the Iran Pro League for the 2012–2013 season.
Paykan then moved back to Tehran and started playing in the newly fixed Takhti Stadium. But in April 2013, Paykan was moved down to the Azadegan League once more. Before the 2013–14 season, Paykan moved again, this time to the city of Qods. In the 2013–2014 season, Paykan finished 2nd in the Azadegan League. This gave them a chance to get back into the Iran Pro League.
Paykan won against Siah Jamegan with a total score of 3–1 over two games. This meant they would play against Fajr Sepasi, a team from the Iran Pro League, to see who would get promoted. The first game ended 0–0. But in the second game in Qods, Paykan scored one goal in the 65th minute and won, earning their promotion. Paykan announced they would play in Qods for the 2014–15 Persian Gulf Pro League season. At the end of that season, Paykan finished 15th and was moved down again.
In the 2015–16 Azadegan League season, Paykan finished first. This meant they were directly promoted back to the Persian Gulf Pro League. As of the 2024-25 season, Paykan is playing in the Azadegan League after being relegated in the 2023-24 season.
