Early Days and Rise to Stardom
Raimond Aumann was born in Augsburg, which was then part of West Germany. He started playing in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league, in 1982. For his first two years, he was a reserve goalkeeper for Bayern Munich. The main goalkeeper at that time was Jean-Marie Pfaff.
In 1984, Raimond Aumann became the number one goalkeeper for Bayern Munich. He held this position until November 1985, when he had an injury. When Jean-Marie Pfaff left Bayern Munich in 1988, Aumann once again became the team's main goalkeeper. Many people thought he was one of the best German goalkeepers of his time.
Success with Bayern Munich and Beşiktaş
During his time with Bayern Munich, Raimond Aumann achieved great success. He helped the team win six German championships. He also won the German Cup twice with Bayern.
In 1994, he moved to Beşiktaş, a football club in Turkey. He helped Beşiktaş win the league championship in 1995. Raimond Aumann stopped playing professional football in November 1995.
Playing for His Country
Raimond Aumann also played for his country, West Germany, four times between 1989 and 1990. He was part of Germany's team for the 1990 World Cup. Even though he was in the squad, he did not play in any of the matches during that tournament. Germany went on to win the World Cup that year.
