Raj Kanwar facts for kids
Raj Kanwar (born June 28, 1961 – died February 3, 2012) was a well-known Indian film director, writer, and producer. He made many popular Hindi films in Mumbai, India.
Raj's Family Life
Raj Kanwar went to school at Col. Brown Cambridge School. This school is in Dehradun, India. He was married to Anita Kanwar. They had two sons, Karan Raj Kanwar and Abhay Kanwar. Both of his sons also work in films, just like their father. Raj's older brother, K. Pappu, is also a filmmaker. Raj Kanwar sadly passed away in Singapore. He died because of a kidney problem.
Raj Kanwar's Film Journey
Raj Kanwar started his career directing plays in Delhi. Plays are live shows with actors. Later, he moved to Mumbai, which is a big city for movies in India. There, he worked as an assistant to famous directors. Some of these directors were Shekhar Kapur and Raj Kumar Santoshi. His very first film as a director was Deewana. This movie came out in 1992. It was a huge hit and made Shah Rukh Khan a star. It was Shah Rukh Khan's first time acting on screen. Raj Kanwar directed many other successful movies. These include Laadla (1994), Jaan (1996), and Jeet (1996). He also directed Judaai (1997), Daag: The Fire (1999), and Badal (2000). He was also known for discovering new talent. He helped actors like Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra start their careers. He cast them in his 2003 film Andaaz. His last movie was Sadiyaan, which was released in 2010. Anurag Singh worked as a chief assistant with him on many films. A fun fact about his movies is that many of the main characters were named Karan and Kajal!
