Priyanka Chopra Jonas (born 18 July 1982) is a famous Indian actress and producer. She won the Miss World 2000 beauty pageant. Priyanka is one of India's most successful actresses and has won many awards. These include two National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards.

In 2016, the Government of India gave her the Padma Shri, a special award for her contributions to art. Time magazine also named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world that year. Later, Forbes listed her among the World's 100 Most Powerful Women. In 2022, she was part of the BBC 100 Women list.

After winning Miss World, Priyanka started her acting career in Indian films. Her first movie was the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002). She then made her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She starred in popular movies like Andaaz (2003) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004). Priyanka Chopra was born on 18 July 1982 in Jamshedpur, India. Her parents, Ashok and Madhu Chopra, were both doctors in the Indian Army. Her father was from Ambala, and her mother was from Jharkhand.

Priyanka's maternal grandmother was a Christian from Kerala. Priyanka has a younger brother named Siddharth. Famous Bollywood actresses Parineeti Chopra, Meera Chopra, and Mannara Chopra are her cousins.

Because her parents were army doctors, Priyanka's family moved around a lot in India. They lived in places like Delhi, Chandigarh, Ladakh, and Bareilly. She attended different schools, including La Martiniere Girls' School.

Priyanka enjoyed moving and changing schools. She saw it as a chance to experience different parts of India. She especially loved playing in the valleys of Leh when she was a child. She said, "I think I was in Class 4 when I was in Leh. My brother was just born. My dad was in the army and was posted there. I stayed in Leh for a year, and my memories of that place are tremendous." She now considers Bareilly her hometown.

The song was a commercial success in India, selling over 130,000 copies in its first week. In October 2012, she won the Best International Debut award at the People's Choice Awards India for this song.

In July 2013, Priyanka released her second single, "Exotic", featuring American rapper Pitbull. Her third single, a cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me", was released in April 2014.

Philanthropy and Social Work

Priyanka supports many good causes through her foundation, "The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education." Priyanka believes in feminism and often speaks about women's rights, gender equality, and the gender pay gap. Priyanka started her production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, to make small films and help new talent in the Indian film industry. Her first Marathi film, Ventilator (2016), was a success and won three awards. In 2018, Priyanka started investing in tech companies. She invested in a coding education startup and the dating app Bumble. She helped launch the Bumble app in India. Priyanka started writing an opinion column for the Hindustan Times newspaper in 2009. She wrote 50 columns in total. She said writing helped her express her inner thoughts. In 2012, she wrote a column for The Times of India about women's safety in cities.

Later, Priyanka wrote an article for The New York Times about the importance of education for girls. She praised Nobel Peace Prize winners Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi. In 2014, she started writing a monthly column for Elle magazine.

Priyanka is very close to her family, including her younger brother, Siddharth. She lives in an apartment on the same floor as her family. She was especially close to her father, who passed away in June 2013. In 2012, she got a tattoo that says "Daddy's lil girl" in his handwriting.
