Ranveer Singh (born 6 July 1985) is a famous Indian actor. He mostly works in Hindi films. He has won many awards, including five Filmfare Awards. Ranveer is one of the highest-paid actors in India. He has been on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2012.

He started acting after finishing college at Indiana University Bloomington. His first big role was in the romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat (2010). For this, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He became very popular through his movies with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. These include Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015), and Padmaavat (2018).

Ranveer also won awards for playing a rapper in Gully Boy (2019). He also played cricket legend Kapil Dev in the sports film 83 (2021). He is married to actress Deepika Padukone. They have a daughter. Ranveer is also known for his unique and bold fashion style.

Early Life and Acting Dreams

Ranveer Singh Bhavnani was born on 6 July 1985. His family lived in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. He has an older sister named Ritika. Ranveer decided to drop "Bhavnani" from his name. He felt "Singh" was shorter and better for his acting career.

Ranveer always wanted to be an actor. He took part in many school plays and debates. But when he went to college in Mumbai, he realized it was hard to get into films. He thought acting was "too far-fetched." So, he focused on creative writing instead.

He later went to the United States for college. He studied Telecommunications at Indiana University Bloomington. While there, he decided to take acting classes. He also studied theatre as a side subject.

After college, Ranveer returned to Mumbai in 2007. He worked as a copywriter in advertising for a few years. He also worked as an assistant director. But he left these jobs to chase his acting dream. In 2010, Ranveer auditioned for a main role in Band Baaja Baaraat. This was a romantic comedy from Yash Raj Films. The producer, Aditya Chopra, was very impressed. He cast Ranveer opposite Anushka Sharma. Ranveer played Bittoo Sharma, a typical boy from Delhi. To get ready, he spent time with students at Delhi University.

Many people thought the film might not do well. But it became a surprise hit! Critics praised Ranveer's acting. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

After this success, Ranveer starred in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. He played a conman named Ricky Bahl. Ricky tricks girls for money, but then he meets his match. Ranveer showed different sides of his character, from funny to serious.

He then earned praise for his role in Lootera (2013). This was a period romance film with Sonakshi Sinha. Ranveer played a quiet and intense conman. Even though Lootera didn't make a lot of money, his acting was highly appreciated.

Ranveer's next big film was Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. He starred with Deepika Padukone in this film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Ranveer played Ram, a Gujarati boy. The film was a big success. It became Ranveer's biggest hit at the time. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

In 2014, Ranveer played a criminal in Gunday. He starred alongside Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Critics liked Ranveer's strong presence on screen. His chemistry with Arjun Kapoor was also praised. Gunday was a big box office success. After a small role in Finding Fanny, he played a gangster in Kill Dil.

Continued Success (2015–2019)

In 2015, Ranveer was in the film Dil Dhadakne Do. It was a comedy-drama about a rich family. Ranveer played the younger brother who wanted to be a pilot. Critics were surprised by his great comic timing. However, the film did not do very well financially.

In 2016, Ranveer starred in Befikre. He played a stand-up comic in Paris. This film was directed by Aditya Chopra. Ranveer even did a rare scene without clothes in the film. But the movie did not do well at the box office.

After a break, Ranveer played a powerful king, Alauddin Khilji, in Padmaavat (2018). This was another historical drama by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was his third film with Bhansali and Deepika Padukone. The film faced some challenges before its release. But when it came out, critics praised Ranveer's amazing performance. He played the part with great energy. Padmaavat was a very expensive film to make. It became Ranveer's highest-grossing film ever. He won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.

Later in 2018, Ranveer played a policeman in Simmba. This action comedy was directed by Rohit Shetty. Ranveer's character was a bit naughty but had a kind heart. The film was a huge success, making a lot of money worldwide.

Ranveer worked with director Zoya Akhtar again in Gully Boy (2019). This musical film was inspired by the lives of street rappers. Ranveer played a poor man who dreams of becoming a rapper. In 2021, Ranveer hosted a TV game show called The Big Picture. He also had a small role in Rohit Shetty's action film Sooryavanshi. Then, he played famous cricketer Kapil Dev in 83. This sports film was about the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The film was delayed several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Critics liked the film and Ranveer's portrayal of Kapil Dev. Even though the film did not make a lot of money, Ranveer won his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Ranveer's first film in 2022 was Jayeshbhai Jordaar. It was a comedy about a serious social issue. Critics noted how Ranveer completely changed his body language for the role. After this, he played two roles as twin brothers in Cirkus (2022). Both Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus did not do well at the box office.

In 2023, Ranveer starred in the romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He acted opposite Alia Bhatt. To prepare, Ranveer spent time with social media influencers to learn their style.
