Early Life and Acting Dreams
Ranveer Singh Bhavnani was born on 6 July 1985 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. His parents are Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani. His family moved to Bombay from Karachi during the time of the Partition of India. He has an older sister named Ritika. Ranveer decided to drop his last name, Bhavnani, because he felt it was too long for an actor's name.
Ranveer always wanted to be an actor. He took part in many school plays and debates. But when he went to college in Mumbai, he realized it was hard to get into the film industry. He thought acting might be "too far-fetched," so he focused on creative writing instead. He then went to the United States and earned a degree in Telecommunications from Indiana University Bloomington in 2008. While there, he decided to take acting classes and studied theatre as a side subject.
After finishing his studies and returning to Mumbai in 2007, Ranveer worked for a few years in advertising as a copywriter. He also worked as an assistant director for a short time. But he left these jobs to follow his dream of acting. He sent his photos and information to many directors and went to many auditions. However, he mostly got calls for small roles. He felt frustrated and sometimes wondered if he was doing the right thing.
