Anushka Sharma (born May 1, 1988) is a famous Indian actress. She works mainly in Hindi films. She has won many important awards, like the Filmfare Awards and IIFA Awards. Forbes India has listed her among the top 100 celebrities. Forbes Asia also featured her in their "30 Under 30" list in 2018.
Anushka was born in Ayodhya and grew up in Bangalore. She started her career as a model in 2007. Later, she moved to Mumbai to become a full-time model. Her first acting role was with Shah Rukh Khan in the hit romantic film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). She became very popular with lead roles in films like Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). She even won an award for her role in Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Anushka also earned praise for playing strong women in films. These include the thriller NH10 (2015) and dramas like Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), and Sui Dhaaga (2018). Anushka Sharma was born on May 1, 1988, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Ajay Kumar Sharma, was an army officer. Her mother, Ashima Sharma, is a homemaker. Her father is from Uttar Pradesh, and her mother is from the Garhwal region. Her older brother, Karnesh Sharma, is also a film producer. He used to work in the Merchant Navy.
Anushka has said that growing up as a military brat helped shape her personality. She is proud to be an army officer's daughter.
She grew up in Bangalore. She went to St. Mary's School in Margherita, Assam, for her early schooling. She was classmates with Sakshi Dhoni, who is the wife of cricketer M.S. Dhoni. She finished her schooling at Army School in Bangalore. After that, she studied arts at Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru.
Anushka first wanted to be a model or a journalist. She did not plan to become an actress. After college, she moved to Mumbai to focus on her modeling career. She joined a modeling agency and learned from style expert Prasad Bidapa. In 2007, she walked the runway for the first time at Lakme Fashion Week. Anushka Sharma started her acting journey in Aditya Chopra's romantic film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). She starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She played Tani Sahni, a young bride. The film was a big hit and was the second-highest-grossing Hindi film that year. Anushka was nominated for awards for Best Actress and Best Female Debut.
Two years later, in 2010, Anushka starred in the comedy Badmaash Company. This film was about four friends who start a scam business. It was a moderate success.

Later in 2010, Anushka starred in Band Baaja Baaraat. This romantic comedy was directed by Maneesh Sharma. She played Shruti Kakkar, an ambitious girl who starts a wedding planning business. To prepare, Anushka learned to speak in a Punjabi accent. Many people doubted the film would do well, but it became a surprise hit. She has also been named "The Person of the Year" by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) many times. She practices Transcendental Meditation. Anushka has also faced some health challenges.

Anushka is a practicing Hindu. She and her family follow the Anant Dham Atmabodh Ashram in Haridwar. Maharaj Anant Baba, who is her family's spiritual teacher, leads the ashram. Anushka often visits the ashram.
Anushka's romantic relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli received a lot of media attention in India. She was initially private about it. The couple got married in Italy on December 11, 2017. They welcomed their daughter on January 11, 2021, and their son on February 15, 2024.
In June 2022, Anushka Sharma publicly spoke out against a media group for sharing a photo of her daughter taken on vacation without her permission.
