Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan (born December 27, 1965), known to millions as Salman Khan, is a famous Indian actor, film producer, and TV host. He mainly works in Hindi movies, also known as Bollywood. For over 30 years, he has been one of India's biggest and most successful movie stars.
Khan has won many awards for his work, including two National Film Awards for producing films and two Filmfare Awards for acting. The magazine Forbes listed him as one of the world's highest-paid celebrities in 2015 and 2018. He has starred in the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year ten times, which is more than any other actor.
Besides acting, Khan is known for his charity work through his foundation, Being Human Foundation. He has also been the host of the popular reality TV show Bigg Boss since 2010. Khan's life off-screen has faced public attention and legal challenges.

Early Life and Family

Salman Khan was born in Indore, India. He is the oldest son of the famous screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife, Salma Khan. His father is Muslim and his mother is Hindu, so he grew up respecting both faiths. His stepmother is the well-known actress Helen.
Khan's family has roots in Afghanistan, with his ancestors moving to India in the 1800s. His grandfather was a high-ranking police officer in Indore. Khan has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, who also work in the film industry. He also has two sisters, Alvira and an adopted sister, Arpita.
He went to St. Stanislaus High School in Mumbai with his brothers. He later attended St. Xavier's College in Mumbai but left to focus on his acting career.
Acting Career
1988–1993: Starting Out
Salman Khan's first movie role was a small part in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988). His big break came the next year when he starred in the romantic movie Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film was a huge success and made him an overnight star. He even won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance.
In the early 1990s, he starred in several hit movies. These included the action film Baaghi (1990) and the romantic drama Saajan (1991). However, he also had a few years where his movies didn't do very well.
1994–1999: Becoming a Star
In 1994, Khan starred in the comedy Andaz Apna Apna with another famous actor, Aamir Khan. The movie wasn't a hit at first, but it is now considered a classic comedy. The same year, he starred in Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, which became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever at the time.
He continued his success with the action movie Karan Arjun (1995), where he starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan. He also showed his acting range in films like the comedy Biwi No.1 (1999) and the drama Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. For his role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), he won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
2000–2009: A Mix of Roles

During the 2000s, Khan tried different types of roles. He starred in the drama Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001), which was about a serious topic. His performance in the 2003 film Tere Naam was highly praised by critics, with many calling it one of his best.
He also found success in comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005). In 2009, he starred in the action film Wanted. This movie was a huge hit and marked a major comeback for him, establishing him as an action hero.
2010–2017: The Action Hero

The 2010s were a golden decade for Salman Khan. He starred in a series of blockbuster action films that broke box office records. His 2010 film Dabangg was a massive success, where he played the funny and fearless police officer Chulbul Pandey.
His streak of hits continued with movies like Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), and Kick (2014). He also starred in powerful dramas like Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), which won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. His 2016 film Sultan, where he played a wrestler, was another huge success.
2018–Present: Recent Films
In recent years, Khan has continued to be a major force in Bollywood. He starred in action films like Race 3 (2018) and Bharat (2019). He also returned to his famous role as Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg 3 (2019).

Other Work
Film Production
In 2011, Khan started his own production company called SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions). The money earned from films made by this company is donated to his charity, the Being Human Foundation. The first film he produced, Chillar Party, won three National Awards.
In 2014, he launched another company, Salman Khan Films (SKF). Under this banner, he has produced many of his own hit movies, including Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan.
Television Host
Khan is also a very popular television host. In 2008, he began hosting the game show 10 Ka Dum, which was a big hit.
Since 2010, he has been the host of the Indian version of the reality show Big Brother, called Bigg Boss. His friendly and direct style of hosting has made the show extremely popular, and he has hosted more than 15 seasons.
Charity Work
Salman Khan is well-known for his charity work. He started a non-profit organization (NGO) called the Being Human Foundation. The foundation sells clothing and other items to raise money for education and healthcare for children and adults in need.
Through his foundation, Khan has helped pay for medical treatments and supported schools. In 2012, his NGO paid to release about 400 prisoners who had served their time but could not afford to pay their legal fines. He also donated profits from his film Bajrangi Bhaijaan to help poor farmers in India.
Personal Life
Khan lives in the Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, Mumbai. He is known for being a fitness enthusiast and follows a strict workout routine. He has never been married.
In 2011, he shared that he has a painful nerve condition called trigeminal neuralgia. He has received treatment for this condition. Khan has said that he identifies as both Hindu and Muslim, honoring the faiths of both his parents.

Salman Khan is one of the most famous people in India. He is often called "Bhai" or "Bhaijaan" by his fans, which means "brother."
In 2004, People magazine of the USA named him the 7th most handsome man in the world. He has a wax statue at Madame Tussauds museum in London. For many years, Forbes magazine has listed him as one of the highest-paid actors in the world. He is also known for his large following on social media.
