Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan (born 27 December 1965) is a famous Indian actor, film producer, and TV host. He mostly works in Hindi films. For over 30 years, he has been a big star in Indian cinema.

Salman Khan has won many awards, including two National Film Awards for producing films and two Filmfare Awards for acting. He is known as one of the most successful actors in India. Forbes magazine even listed him among the world's highest-paid celebrities in 2015 and 2018. He has starred in the highest-earning Hindi film of 10 different years, which is more than any other actor.

He started acting in 1988 with a small role in Biwi Ho To Aisi. His big break came in 1989 with the romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya, which won him an award for Best Male Debut. He became very popular with hit films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), and Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999).

After some ups and downs, Salman Khan made a big comeback with the action film Wanted (2009). He then starred in many super successful action movies like Dabangg (2010), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). He also starred in popular dramas like Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Sultan (2016).

Besides acting, Salman Khan hosts TV shows, like the reality show Bigg Boss since 2010. He also helps people through his charity, Being Human Foundation.

Salman Khan was born on 27 December 1965. He is the oldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife, Salma. His father is Muslim and his mother is Hindu. He grew up learning about both religions.

His family has roots in Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir. His grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was a Deputy Inspector General in Indore. Salman can speak Marathi, Hindi, and English. He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. He also has two sisters, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and an adopted sister, Arpita.

Salman went to St. Stanislaus High School in Mumbai. He also studied at The Scindia School in Gwalior for a few years. He started college at St. Xavier's College but did not finish his degree.

Film Career Highlights

Early Roles and First Big Hit

Salman Khan first appeared in a film in 1988 in Biwi Ho To Aisi. The next year, he got his first main role in Sooraj Barjatya's romantic musical Maine Pyar Kiya. This film was a huge success and made him a star. He won an award for Best Male Debut for this movie.

In 1990, he starred in Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, which he also wrote. This film was also a hit. In 1991, his films Sanam Bewafa and Saajan were very successful. Their music albums were among the best-selling that year. However, his films in 1992 and 1993 were not as successful.

In 1994, Salman Khan starred in Andaz Apna Apna with Aamir Khan. This film was not a hit at first, but it later became a cult classic. Later that year, he worked with director Sooraj Barjatya again in the romance Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. This film was a massive hit, earning over ₹2 billion worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Indian film at that time.

In 1995, he starred in Karan Arjun with Shah Rukh Khan. His role earned him a nomination for the Best Actor award. In 1998, he had a big hit with Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. He also had a special appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which won him a Best Supporting Actor award.

In 1999, Salman Khan starred in three successful films: Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Biwi No.1, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. His acting in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was highly praised.

Hits and Challenges

In the early 2000s, Salman Khan appeared in films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001) and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002). In 2003, he starred in Tere Naam, where his acting was considered very strong. He continued with comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005).

In 2007, he was in the film Salaam-e-Ishq and even a Hollywood movie called Marigold. In 2009, he hosted the TV show 10 Ka Dum, which became very popular. He also starred in the action film Wanted, which brought him back to major success.

Becoming a Superstar

In 2018, Salman Khan starred in Race 3. He then appeared in Bharat (2019) and Dabangg 3 (2019). In 2021, he was in Radhe and Antim: The Final Truth.

In 2023, he had a special appearance in Pathaan as his character Tiger. He also starred in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. Later in 2023, he returned as Tiger in Tiger 3, which was a successful movie.

Other Work

Film Production

In 2011, Salman Khan started his own production company called SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions). The money earned from these films goes to his Being Human charity. The first film from this company was Chillar Party, which won three National Awards.

In 2014, he started another production house called SKF (Salman Khan Films). This company has produced films like Hero and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

In 2008, Salman Khan hosted the game show 10 Ka Dum. The show was very popular and helped Sony Entertainment Television become one of the top channels in India. He won the Best Anchor Award for this show in 2008 and 2009.

In 2010, he started hosting Bigg Boss 4. People really liked his hosting style. He has continued to host many seasons of Bigg Boss, including Bigg Boss 17.

Brand Endorsements

Salman Khan has been the face of many brands. Early in his career, he advertised for Campa Cola and Hero Honda bikes. Later, he endorsed soft drinks like Thums Up and Mountain Dew. He is now a brand ambassador for Pepsi.

He also promotes the travel website Yatra, Suzuki motorcycles, and Relaxo Hawaii shoes. He has appeared in ads for Wheel detergent and Chlormint gum. Salman Khan is well-known for his charity work. He started an organization called Being Human. This foundation sells T-shirts and other items, and part of the money goes to help people in need. Being Human focuses on education and healthcare for those who are less fortunate.

In 2012, he offered to pay money to help release about 400 prisoners in Uttar Pradesh. These prisoners had finished their jail time but could not pay the fines. In 2015, he offered to donate the profits from his film Bajrangi Bhaijaan to help poor farmers in India.

He also met with an 11-year-old fan from Pakistan, Abdul Basit, who was very ill. Salman Khan was also invited by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. He has campaigned for cleaning streets in Mumbai.

Personal Life

Salman Khan lives in Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai. He also owns a large property in Panvel with bungalows, a swimming pool, and a gym. He is very dedicated to fitness.

He has never married. He has been in relationships with actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif in the past. Since 2012, he has been in a relationship with Romanian actress Iulia Vântur.

In 2011, Salman Khan shared that he suffers from trigeminal neuralgia, a condition that causes severe facial pain. He said he had been dealing with it for many years.

Salman Khan identifies as both Muslim and Hindu, saying, "I'm Hindu and Muslim both. I'm Bharatiya (an Indian)." He explained this because his father is Muslim and his mother is Hindu.

In the media, Salman Khan's name is often shortened to SK. This is seen in his gym brand "SK-27 Gym" and his film company "SKF (Salman Khan Films)". He is also known as "Bhai" or "Bhaijaan" (meaning brother), which is even used in the titles of his films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

In 2004, People Magazine in the USA ranked him as the 7th Best looking man in the world. His wax statue was placed in London's Madame Tussauds Museum in 2008, and another one in Madame Tussauds New York in 2012. In 2013, he was named India's Most Searched Celebrity Online.

Forbes India ranked him at the top in 2014 for both fame and earnings. In 2015, Forbes listed him as the highest-ranked Indian celebrity globally, earning $33.5 million. He was also ranked higher than US President Barack Obama in a list of India's Most Admired Personalities. In 2016, the Indian Olympic Association made him the goodwill ambassador for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2017, he was named the ninth highest-paid actor in the world by Forbes.
