Ralph Moore's Early Life
Ralph Moore was born in Brixton, London, England. His mother was a dancer named Josie Woods. His father was in the US military. Ralph spent his childhood years in Brixton.
When he was 14, he started playing the tenor saxophone. He had tried other instruments before finding the saxophone. In 1972, he moved to Santa Maria, California, to live with his father. His mother wanted him to grow up outside of Brixton. Around 1975, he moved to Boston. There, he played music locally and studied at the Berklee College of Music.
Ralph Moore's Music Career
Ralph Moore started his professional music career in 1979. He went on a tour of Scandinavia. The next year, he moved to New York City. From 1981 to 1985, he was a part of Horace Silver's band. With them, he toured Europe and Japan and made recordings.
After that, Ralph played with many other famous musicians. These included Roy Haynes, Darrell Grant, and Dizzy Gillespie. He also played with Freddie Hubbard and Gene Harris.
