Ramūnas Butautas (born on May 22, 1964, in Kaunas) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach. He is known for leading various basketball teams. His father, Stepas Butautas, was also a famous basketball player and coach.

Ramūnas Butautas last coached Lietkabelis Panevėžys in the Lithuanian Basketball League. In 2017, he also became the head coach for the Lebanon national basketball team.

Ramūnas Butautas' Coaching Journey

Ramūnas Butautas has coached many basketball teams throughout his career. He started coaching in 2003.

Early Coaching Roles

In December 2006, the Basketball Federation of Lithuania chose Butautas to be the head coach of the Lithuanian national men's basketball team. This was a very important role.

Coaching Club Teams

In December 2009, he became the head coach for Žalgiris Kaunas. This is a well-known team in Lithuania. He left Žalgiris in February 2010.

Later, in March 2011, Butautas was appointed head coach of VEF Rīga. He signed a new contract with them in June 2013. However, he left the team in June 2014 after a difficult season.

He also coached Astana and helped them win the national championship in 2015. He left Astana in 2016. On December 29, 2017, he returned to coaching in Lithuania with Lietkabelis Panevėžys.

Coaching National Teams

Ramūnas Butautas has coached national teams at different age levels. He has helped young players develop their skills.

  • 2003: Assistant coach for Lithuania's Under-19 team.
  • 2004: Head coach for Lithuania's Under-20 team.
  • 2005: Head coach for Lithuania's Under-21 team.
  • 2007–2009: Head coach for the main Lithuanian national basketball team.
  • 2017: Head coach for Lithuania's Under-20 team again.
  • 2017–2018: Head coach for the Lebanon national basketball team.

Major Achievements and Awards

Butautas has achieved many successes as a coach. He has won several championships and medals.

  • Silver medal in the 2003 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.
  • Bronze medal in the 2004 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
  • Gold medal in the 2005 FIBA Under-21 World Championship.
  • Bronze medalist in the LKL (Lithuanian League) in 2004 and 2005.
  • Bronze medalist in the BBL in 2005, 2008, and 2012.
  • Silver medalist in the BBL in 2011.
  • Bronze medalist in the Latvian league in 2006.
  • Latvian league champion in 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
  • Bronze medal in EuroBasket 2007.
  • Silver medalist in the Latvian league in 2008 and 2014.
  • Champion of the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship in 2015.
